Before we get into the art of calculating with fractions, it is - as always - first you have to master the basics!

Page 1: A fraction - numerator, denominator, fraction bar

A fraction has a numerator, denominator and a fraction bar.

That's good to know, but to understand the meaning I'll show you a picture that you can refer to again and again: Read on page 1 what is a fraction.

Page 2, 3 and 4: Mixed Numbers

If you place a whole number in front of a fraction, you get a mixed number.

A popular exercise is the conversion of mixed number into an improper fraction and vice versa.

You get the reciprocal of a fraction by turning it upside down. The numerator becomes the denominator and the denominator becomes the numerator.
